Courtney O’hagan
I am a soon to be mother, a birth worker, a postpartum doula.
I love living a slow life in the northern suburbs of Naarm/Melbourne with my partner by the Darebin Creek.
I spend my time baking, hiking, gardening and when I am not pregnant, on the back of a horse.
I love supporting women to take their own path to birth by feeling supported, informed & held during this incredible time in our lives. I believe each of us knows what is best for ourselves and our babies. For me, when a birthing mother feels supported, protected, and is left undisturbed, birth works best.
My journey into birth work began when I started studying the bachelor of midwifery in 2018. After some time, I felt a calling to dive deeper than the textbooks and work intimately with the women themselves - to accompany them spiritually, emotionally & physically on their unique journey to pregnancy, birth, postpartum and always beyond... So, with a huge passion for anatomy & physiology, an unwavering trust in women and a strong motivation to see birth reclaimed, I became a doula. I love to honour and observe the mundane and spiritual facets birth offers and am fascinated by it - how normal, sacred and life altering it is. Birth is a ceremony, no matter where it happens. Spending much of my time listening to stories and reading statistics, I became super passionate about what happens after birth too, how disregarded it has become in our western society and the detrimental impacts that has on women’s lives long after they birth. Postpartum is just as, if not more important than pregnancy and birthing.
Through my lifelong love of nurturing others, I am now truly honoured to serve women in the way in which they need, to birth their babies gently, lovingly, safely into the world.
"Nurturing the mother is one of the most foundational pillars of society. The support of the life giver, and in turn the new life must be nourished, held, supported, and healed. Ayurveda, the science of life, ancient as time. Recognises postpartum care as the most dear time for healing and rejuvenation. So much more so than the actual pregnancy! Entire lives change, and support is needed."
